Cyberpunk Edgerunners and Cyberpunk 2077 As you may already know, this month Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an anime series based on the video game universe, premiered on Netflix and is having quite a bit of success. Although the characters in the anime are completely new, this work was expected to keep parallels to the original game, and finally it has happened. Let’s discover them!
All the similarities between Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Cyberpunk 2077
structure and characters
Although, as we have just commented, the anime characters are brand new, occupy roles similar to those given in the game. And it is that in Edgerunners the roles like Mercenary or Fixer, among others. In addition, these characters also charge for carrying out various missions, just like in the video game. On the other hand, the series follows a narrative structure similar to that of Cyberpunk 2077. What does this mean? well what each episode is planned as a new mission or level for your characters.
In the video game, the protagonists are hired to robar un biochip known as “The Relic” of the Arasaka Corporation. But the mission goes wrong and V ends up with the biochip in his red neuronal, which endangers his life. From there, they will try to remove the biochip. In Edgerunners we also find the Arasaka Corporation, and at the beginning of the series David and his mother move to Night City so that he can attend the Academia Arasaka. David also ends up grafting onto his body a artificial spine and a series of events lead him to insert more cybernetic implants into his body to increase his strength.
Arasaka technology remains a main robbery target by the Fixers and Mercenaries, and in both cases stealing from this corporation is very dangerous and can have fatal results.
In Cyberpunk 2077, V ends up being betrayed by one of the Fixers when the biochip theft goes wrong. And something similar happens in Edgerunners, as David is also betrayed by the Fixer who hired him to steal hidden data from Arasaka. Namely, both protagonists are betrayed by a Fixerspecifically the one who has been in charge of hiring them.
Phone calls and erotic scenes
the famous phone calls from Cyberpunk 2077 also appear in the recent anime in the same way: with a transcript of the conversation on the screen.
For their part, the sexual scenes are also very present in the series, although in a way more explicit, so it is not appropriate for all audiences. Of course, like in the game, they are shown from the first person point of view.
These are all elements that connect the Cyberpunk anime to the game. Finally, although they are different stories and characters, these parallels make it clear that both works are set in the same world. Fuente: CBR
